I've been dairy-free for nearly 12 years, but I'm only a few years into my gluten-free journey. Along the way, I've found some favorites that make it a whole lot easier. I've gathered some of my go-to snacks for busy days along with homemade recipes that I actually enjoy making and eating.

Understanding Dairy-Free and Gluten-Free Diets

Before diving into the recipes, it’s essential to understand what it means to follow a dairy-free and gluten-free diet.

What is a Dairy-Free Diet?

A dairy-free diet excludes all forms of dairy products, including milk, cheese, yogurt, and butter. People choose this diet for various reasons, including lactose intolerance, dairy allergies, or ethical considerations. Fortunately, there are many alternatives available, such as almond milk, coconut yogurt, and cashew cheese, that can easily replace traditional dairy products.

What is a Gluten-Free Diet?

A gluten-free diet eliminates gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley, and rye. People may follow a gluten free diet for several reasons. For people with celiac disease, avoiding gluten is medically necessary. Many grains, such as rice, quinoa, and corn, are naturally gluten-free and can be used in place of traditional wheat-based products.

Dairy Free and Gluten Free Favorites for Busy Days

I love homemade food, but some days there just isn't time to make everything from scratch. Having a few good dairy free and gluten free options in the pantry can make those busy days so much easier.

I put together a list of some of my favorite convenient options on Amazon that are great to have on hand.

When shopping for packaged foods, always check the ingredient label for your own dietary needs. Ingredients and manufacturing practices can change, and a product that works for one person may not be appropriate for someone with an allergy or celiac disease.
